[26] Northern Lights Franconia

Usually, the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are only visible in the far northern or southern hemispheres near the polar circles. However, very rarely, solar storms unfold that make this wonderful phenomenon visible in our regions as well. This happens roughly every 20-30 years (!), and clear skies are also necessary. On the night of May 10th to 11th 2024, a geomagnetic storm of category five (the strongest possible category) hit our planet and unfolded a spectacular light show in the sky above the Ehrenbürg (locally called "Walberla") in Franconian Switzerland.
